Municipal, third service transporting EMS service in southwest Bayfield County. Our service area covers the 126 square mile Town of Barnes, and we contract to provide additional primary response to the southern 36 square mile township of the Town of Highland in Douglas County.
Our service area contains many lakes and rivers, thousands of acres of forest, miles of snowmobile and ATV/UTV trails, county highways, and a state highway. Year around population is less than 800, but weekend and summer time population can often increase to several thousand.
We currently utilize a hybrid staffing model consisting of paid volunteers, part-time staff, and full-time staff. The service is licensed and operates at an EMT level, with flexible staffing to utilize EMRs as the second member of a legal crew in addition to an EMT. ALS intercept services are provided by 3 neighboring paramedic level services, and mutual aid services are provided and received with other neighboring BLS services.
